Day 2-5

It’s been a whirlwind of activity here in Denver. We’ve been here since Saturday evening and it seems like we haven’t stopped since.

Sunday morning we spent worshiping with the Edge Church. Our students got to see first hand what it’s like to do a mobile church. We were there early Sunday morning to help setup everything from sound equipment, a stage, children’s play areas, and everything in between. We got to help with greeting, play with kids, and a lot of other really cool stuff. I think our students were really blown away by how church differently church can be done. After lunch on Sunday afternoon we spent passing out flyers for our Kids Camp.

Monday morning was very rainy here in Denver. The ground was incredibly wet and it rained most of the morning, so our first day of Kids Camp was cancelled. We were all a little bit disappointed, but we were actually able to go back to the church we are staying at (Mississippi Ave. Baptist Church) and do some odd jobs for them inside. We cleaned windows, cleaned bathrooms, mopped, and did some painting. Monday afternoon was spent finishing painting, canvassing the neighborhood for our Kids Camp, and Proclamation went out and sang.

Tuesday was the first actual day of Kids Camp, and it went great. We had 21 kids show up the first day, and our students had an absolute blast playing games and teaching them. It was really amazing to watch our students step up and run everything at the Kids Camp. We spent Tuesday afternoon helping the Edge Church do some more promotion for another camp and Proclamation went and sang at a homeless shelter.

Every night we’ve been in Denver has also included a time of teaching and Bible study for our students. For me these have been sweet times of worship with your students and it’s so encouraging to me to watch your students praise Jesus.

We’ve got another day of Kids Camp ready to go this morning that we are really excited about. I’ll post some more pictures of things we do today. I’ll also try and video interview a few of the students today about everything we’ve been doing and post those on here as well.

I hope you will continue to pray for us as we have several more days of opportunities to share Christ with children and their families at the Kids Camp. Talk to you soon.

Day 1

We’ve made it safely to Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. We will spend the night here and head for Denver early in the morning. Thank you all so much for your prayers for the trip and please be praying for the kids and families we will get to meet and hang out with this week.

New Home [Updated]

Check out the new home of all things for the students of Matthew Road: collidestudentministries.tumblr.com.

This new home will enable us to more easily update parents and students on all things going on in the student ministry.

Check there for updates on our Denver Trip which leaves Friday morning.

You will still be able to check here for posts as well, the blog on tumblr is primarily for trips and updates that include a lot of pictures.

Summer Movie Awesomeness

As we are quickly approaching the end of the school year and the Summer is rapidly approaching, one thing is on a lot of people’s minds: Summer Blockbuster Movies. Who doesn’t enjoy a good summertime blockbuster movie, probably a sequel or superhero movie, to break up the pattern of going to bed really late, sleeping most of the day, eating, and vacations?

Here are some of the movie posters for several of this Summer’s upcoming movies. I somehow feel like the actual movies will be slightly less awesome than these posters would have you believe.

Recommended Listening: Beautiful Things by Gungor

Images

This weeks recommended listening comes to us from a band with an interesting name, Gungor. There second release, Beautiful Things, is a tremendous album full of good music and the message of the love of God and his restoration of all things.

I think I’m most impressed by this album simply by the creativity in the music. This is just a good album. This band is incredibly talented musically, and I appreciate that as I watch the music industry as a whole lack originality, creativity, and quality musicianship.

Here is Michael Gungor performing Doxology at the studios of Relevant Magazine for your listening enjoyment.
